Since when is self-care so heavily defined by treating yourself to items you can buy? Self-care should be about you & making sure you feel good and healthy as much as you can at a certain point in time. Self-care is about improving your (mental) health. It’s not buying a lipstick. It is the act of putting a lipstick on when you’re in a bad place and you know it might help you. Self-care can be difficult, too. Self-care should be making sure you eat well, sleep enough etc. Self-care starts with getting to know yourself and learning what you truly need to end up feeling better. This is hard and it’s a long process. Self-care could be putting yourself to bed early and waking up at a regular times so your day will feel structured and your mind refreshed. Self-care could be making lists and feeling that surge of happiness when you completed something. Self-care is you, you & YOU, not products, not instant gratification.
